Hornedo Campaign Unveils A Sustainable Future Agenda for Indianapolis

Plan focuses on clean energy jobs, lower utility bills, and climate-ready infrastructure

Tuesday, September 30, 2025

Indianapolis, IN — Today, George Hornedo—Democratic candidate for Congress in Indiana’s 7th District— announced his A Sustainable Future agenda: a comprehensive plan to deliver clean air, safe water, affordable energy, and reliable infrastructure for every family in Indianapolis.

“Every family deserves the basics: lower energy bills, clean air, and water you can trust,” said Hornedo. “Right now, too many Hoosiers are paying more for utilities while living with pollution, blackouts, and aging infrastructure. It’s past time for leadership that delivers real results instead of excuses.”

The A Sustainable Future agenda highlights eight key commitments:

  • Good Jobs and Clean Energy – Train local workers for high-paying careers in solar, wind, and battery storage; build job pipelines with Ivy Tech and local employers; position Indianapolis as a national leader in renewable technology.

  • Lower Energy Costs and Less Pollution – Expand access to solar and wind, provide incentives for home energy upgrades, and ensure no household has to choose between food and power.

  • Heat Resilience and Cleaner Air – Plant 10,000+ trees in vulnerable neighborhoods, establish community cooling centers, and upgrade buildings with energy-efficient technology.

  • Clean Water and Pollution Protection – Clean up the White River, replace lead pipes, and hold industrial polluters accountable.

  • Public Transit That Works – Expand IndyGo’s electric bus fleet, improve routes and frequency, and invest in infrastructure that connects neighborhoods to jobs.

  • Climate-Ready Infrastructure – Build rain gardens and flood prevention systems, retrofit stormwater infrastructure, and invest in resilient public works that save families money.

  • Reliable Energy and Fewer Outages – Modernize the grid, expand battery storage, and promote microgrids to keep communities powered during emergencies.

  • Make Indianapolis a Clean Energy Leader – Partner with Purdue, IUPUI, and industry leaders; attract clean tech startups; expand renewable energy production and distribution.

Hornedo emphasized that these steps are not luxuries but essentials.

“This isn’t about slogans. It’s about getting the basics right. Lower bills, safer communities, and future-ready jobs should be the standard in Indianapolis, not the exception. The longer we wait, the more we pay. It’s time to act, and it’s time to lead.”

The A Sustainable Future agenda is part of Hornedo’s broader Fair Shot Agenda, a set of policy priorities designed to strengthen working families, rebuild trust in government, and modernize Indiana’s economy from the ground up.
