Statement from George Hornedo on Indiana Democratic Party and Secretary of State Race

Monday, October 6, 2025

Indianapolis, IN — George Hornedo, candidate for Congress in Indiana’s 7th District, today released the following statement:

“Today, Beau Bayh announced his campaign for Secretary of State, joining Blythe Potter in the Democratic field. Whoever emerges as the nominee at next summer’s state convention will face the same reality: without a stronger Indianapolis, Democrats cannot win statewide.

For too long, Indiana’s 7th Congressional District has gone from being the strongest Democratic turnout base in the state to the weakest. Precinct chair and vice chair positions sit vacant, grassroots infrastructure has eroded, and our county party has lost the capacity it once had to fuel statewide victories. At the same time, the Indiana Democratic Party is broke, disorganized, and forgot how to fight for people.

This crisis is compounded by looming redistricting, where Republicans are openly threatening to erase Democratic seats entirely. If we don’t build now, we risk losing not just future races, but the very foothold we have left in Congress.

That’s why I’ve turned my campaign into a vehicle for grassroots defense and party rebuilding. In just the past months, we’ve knocked on 14,000+ doors, made 10,000+ calls, and built a volunteer structure ready to scale. We’re proving what it looks like to fight and to organize.

Whoever the nominee is—Beau, Blythe, or anyone else—I will work my heart out to make sure we win. But the only way we win is if we rebuild power in Indianapolis. That’s what I’m focused on every day, because without it, no Democrat will have a shot statewide.

Indiana can win again. But it won’t happen by accident. It’ll happen by building from the ground up.”
