George Hornedo Statement on Mid-Cycle Redistricting Announcement

Monday, November 3, 2025

Indianapolis, IN — George Hornedo, Democratic candidate for Congress in Indiana’s 7th District, today issued the following statement regarding legislative leaders’ plan to open the 2026 session early to redraw Indiana’s congressional maps at President Trump’s urging:

“When people in power start moving lines in the middle of a decade, it’s fear disguised as reform.

Hoosiers deserve a politics that builds things, not one that rewrites the rules when it’s losing.

The same brinksmanship that shut down our government and froze food assistance for 600,000 Hoosiers is now being used to redraw communities out of representation. Instead of fixing roads, lowering health-care costs, or keeping food on the table, our Governor and Republican legislators are spending December protecting their party.

We’re not waiting for them. Our campaign is already the largest grassroots effort in the state—knocking doors, organizing neighbors, and even connecting families to food resources through our Organizing Against Hunger initiative. That’s what real representation looks like.

No matter how they draw the map, we’ll still be here knocking, building, and climbing. Because democracy isn’t about the lines they draw; it’s about the lives we lift.”
