George Hornedo Statement on Indiana Redistricting Push Collapsing Despite White House Pressure

Friday, November 14, 2025

Indianapolis, IN — George Hornedo, Democratic candidate for Indiana’s 7th Congressional District, released the following statement after Politico reported that President Trump and Vice President JD Vance personally pressured Indiana lawmakers to force a mid-decade redistricting session—a push that collapsed Friday when Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray announced the Senate would not reconvene:

“What we saw today was Indiana rejecting a political order from Washington. Hoosiers of every party have made clear that we don’t redraw maps mid-decade to serve the ambitions of a president. We earn our representation by showing up, solving problems, and listening to the people we serve.

The Trump administration’s attempt to strong-arm Indiana into a 9–0 map was never about fairness. It was always about power. Indianapolis was in the crosshairs. A map designed in the Oval Office would have diluted the voice of this city at a moment when families need government to work, not vanish.

I commend every Republican and Democratic lawmaker who held firm even under direct White House pressure. This is what independence looks like. This is what protecting Hoosier values looks like.

Indiana is not a pawn in anyone’s national strategy. Not for Donald Trump, not for Washington insiders, not for any political machine. Hoosiers choose their representatives. Full stop. If we want a democracy that works, we need leaders who win by earning trust in every neighborhood, not by changing the rules behind closed doors.

This moment is bigger than one vote or one session. It’s a reminder that Indiana’s future won’t be decided by fear or pressure. Instead, it will be decided by communities organizing, speaking up, and demanding a government that works again. That’s why I’m running. And that’s why we’re building something new.”
