George Hornedo Statement on Martindale-Brightwood Data Center Approval
Hornedo Slams Carson's Lack of Leadership on the Issue
Thursday, April 2
Indianapolis, IN — George Hornedo, candidate for Congress in Indiana's 7th Congressional District, released the following statement following yesterday's approval of the Metrobloks Data Center by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Development Commission:
"I was at that hearing. I heard the residents. I heard the organizers. I heard the community that has been fighting this project—loudly, clearly, and repeatedly. Yesterday, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Development Commission ignored them anyway.
This is what bad deals, bad policy, and bad process look like. Martindale-Brightwood didn't ask for this project. Residents were never given adequate answers about environmental impact, utility costs, and more. When they pushed back—doing exactly what citizens are supposed to do—the commission moved forward regardless.
And where was Congressman Carson? A day-of tweet saying residents can 'make their voices heard’—all while some of his top financial backers sat in that room supporting the project. André Carson isn’t representing us. He’s looking the other way while the people he’s supposed to serve get run over.
This is the difference between showing up and sending a tweet. Between standing with a community and standing with the people who fund your campaign. Between using the platform of this office and sitting on it.
Congress has a role here. A data center moratorium, federal infrastructure funding, environmental oversight, utility regulation—a member of Congress who is actually fighting for Indianapolis can force these conversations at every level of government. That requires presence. André Carson’s silence is loud and clear.
Martindale-Brightwood deserves a congressman who was in that room. I was. André Carson was not.
