Decision Desk HQ Names IN-07 One of 16 Races to Watch; Names Hornedo Carson's Leading Challenger

Indianapolis, IN — Decision Desk HQ, one of the nation's most respected nonpartisan election forecasting outlets, today named Indiana's 7th Congressional District one of 16 races to watch in Indiana and Ohio on Election Day.

 

In its analysis, Decision Desk HQ identified George Hornedo as Rep. André Carson's leading challenger and noted that Carson—who has won at least 85% of the primary vote in every election dating back to 2010—will almost certainly fall short of that figure today.

 

Hornedo ran an entirely grassroots campaign funded by individual donors with no corporate PAC money, raising $269,000 against Carson's $792,000—a nearly 3-to-1 financial disadvantage—while building the largest Democratic field operation in Indiana by knocking over 40,000 doors, making more than 1.7 million voter outreach attempts, and talking to 16,000+ residents in the district.

 

"For the first time in nearly two decades, André Carson is in a real race and it took a fraction of his resources to make it one," said Hornedo. "Whatever tonight looks like, this district has made clear it wants more from its representation."
